Wayne Strobel

Wayne Strobel, a Louisville, Ky., native, received a Bachelor of Science in business administration from the University of Kentucky in 1983 and has been in the real estate industry since 1988, when he started a FSBO Magazine in Louisville. In 1991, he started Inno-Max Realty, a non-traditional real estate brokerage company, to work in tandem with the magazine. He sold in 1994 after growing the combined companies to 26 agents and $1 million in annual sales.

Though he always had an affinity for the industry, Strobel never wanted to be a traditional real estate agent or broker. His beliefs that the selling commissions were too high and that the focus should be on helping homeowners sell their homes without overspending led him to structure his companies to help his clients save money. A real self-starter, he published the first issue of the FSBO Magazine within six weeks of his initial idea.

Strobel entered the FSBO Web market in 1995 with FSBOonline.com - the parent company of HomesByOwner.com. This was the first company in the nation to have a completely automated, database-driven, upload-capable For Sale By Owner Web site. In 2002, he bought the domain name HomesByOwner.com and now also owns FSBO.net, FSBOonline.com and NFSBOA.com, the Web site for the National FSBO Association.

When asked why he chose to venture into the Web market, Strobel says, "I love the fast pace of the technology business and am still awed each day by the power of the Internet. In this business, I know the biggest changes are still in our future, and I am excited to see what the next decade will bring."

One of FSBOonline.com's first customers was FSBO Magazine in Memphis, Tenn., and it was through the magazine that he met his business partner, Ken Hamric. Together, they have operated HomesByOwner.com since 1999.

Strobelís business motto influences all of his ventures, but it is most evident in the structure of HomesByOwner.com.

Kenneth Hamric

A lifetime Memphis, Tenn., resident, Ken Hamric holds a Master of Science in computer engineering from the University of Memphis and boasts more than 20 years in the software development industry, including 10 years with General Electric and six years with Oracle Corporation.

Hamric has been creating Web-based business solutions since the first beta version of Netscape was released in 1994. He immediately realized the potential of the Internet platform and began leveraging it to deliver solutions for a variety of clients. He first ventured into the real estate arena in 1988 by developing a custom publishing solution for the FSBO Magazine located in Memphis.

The owner of that FSBO magazine introduced Hamric and Wayne Strobel in 1999, and Hamric came on board to develop HomesByOwner.com. He then left his career at Oracle in 2005 to concentrate his full efforts on leading the technical direction of HomesByOwner.com.

Hamric and Strobel are united in their desire to have all transactions be win-win situations for the company and its clients. About HomesByOwner.comís unique structure and offerings, he says,
