How Much Home Can I Afford?
Many websites like Realtor.com have mortgage calculators. This will give you a rough idea of what you can afford and where to start looking. But remember, it is one thing to do a mortgage calculation on a website. It is another to visit with a mortgage broker, have your credit pulled, and then see what interest rate you are going to obtain. Then, hearing the actual monthly payment of what a house is going to cost with insurance and taxes is when you are really getting "qualified".
Be smart.
This is a huge investment with most of the first years being all interest and very little principal. Stay under what you are told you can afford, not right on the edge.
